Agriculture
As one of the world’s leading merchants of grains and oilseeds, Cargill connects producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe. We operate on an integrated global basis to source, store, trade, process and distribute grains and oilseeds including wheat, corn, oilseeds, barley and sorghum, as well as vegetable oils and meals. We have a broad global presence in grain origination, shipping and processing, offering a range of farmer services and risk management solutions, and have significant expertise in handling identity preserved and differentiated products.
In Japan, our agricultural supply chain activities include:
- Importing, exporting and distributing primary processing products
- Supplying grains, including specialty products
Helping our partners thrive
The first foreign-owned company licensed to import rice and wheat into Japan, our core strengths today include distributing primary processing products and merchandising grain to the domestic market. We leverage our strong capabilities in origination and distribution to import and export, meeting the needs of customers involved in a wide range of food and animal feed sectors.
We work hard to make our partners' businesses more successful and offer value-added services including product authentication, risk management, logistics and arbitrage trading.
Our capabilities and resources
Trading is managed by a head office in Shanghai and supported by a regional network with a presence in Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei and Seoul and well as in Japan. We handle a wide range of grains and oilseeds including all the principal cereals and meals as well as specialty grains, vegetable oils, starch, flour and non-grain feed ingredients.
Product authentication is a key issue in Japan and our teams are able to provide sophisticated 'identity preserved' handling for specific products.
Through Cargill’s ocean transportation capabilities, we offer shipping programmes that deliver better scheduling and greater supply chain efficiency. We also work with our customers to tailor risk management and logistical solutions, and actively operate arbitrage trading on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange and futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
